Threats of attacks on schools in Berlin have caused unrest among students and parents. Now the police are trying to reassure: there is no indication of danger. However, officers were stationed around the school.
According to police, the alleged announcement of attacks on around 20 schools in Berlin spread via several messaging services should not be taken seriously. Police had been aware of the information since Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson told rbb on Monday morning.
According to police, the announcement was “false information intended to incite fear.” Police warned about disinformation and fake news on Platform X. “We have no indication of any specific danger or threat,” authorities said.
Now there is another threat of violence from copycats. The spokesman emphasized that it was still assumed there was no danger.
There has been an increase in calls from concerned parents to police as a result of the posts. At least 900 calls were received via emergency numbers, police said.
The number of civil servants on duty is now increasing. According to the spokesperson, we will be present around the school to be able to react quickly to incidents if necessary. Apart from that, prevention personnel are also sent to various schools, for example to provide communication services to school management. Information leaflets should also be distributed.
Investigations that disturb public peace
There was a lot of reaction online to the police information. Parental chatter is currently “getting noisy,” for example, it says. One father said: “My son showed me the threatening video; he’s scared, and so are his classmates. They won’t go to school tomorrow. I’m scared too. Please do something.”
The police are investigating the disturbance of public peace by threatening to commit a criminal act. Now it is being investigated who is behind the spread of this message.
