Betis and Isco, a love forever: renewed until 2028 | Football | Sport

Isco and Betis have created a truly special relationship. The attacking midfielder, who won, for example, five Champions Leagues in Madrid after being a young star at Málaga and failing at Sevilla, has found his place in the world at the green and white club. Isco suffered his second serious injury with Betis last August and is close to returning to compete for the Andalusian team. Already in May 2024 he suffered another serious injury which prevented him from playing in the Euro Cup won by Spain in Germany. Despite these two harsh setbacks, Betis and the player have established an almost everlasting relationship. The Betic entity and the attacking midfielder are therefore very close to signing Isco’s renewal until 2028. With a contract until 2027, this extension could also reach 2029. The reason is very symbolic. It is on that date that Betis will have to return to the new Benito Villamarín, now demolished.

The renewal of Isco would imply his placement at the top of the salary of the Heliopolitan team. He would be on the podium together with Antonio and Lo Celso. The arrival of the Brazilian also favored the renewal of Isco, given that the Spanish international, captain and emblem of the team, could not be lower on the salary scale than the Andalusian. Of course, the one who earns the most at Betis is the coach Manuel Pellegrini, with whom he is also negotiating his renewal, although not as close as that of Isco.

The native of Malaga presented the documentary in Seville in silencedirected by his partner, Sara Sálamo, actress and director. Work on the player’s recovery after the serious injury suffered in May 2024. The player referred in the press conference to this love born with Betis after his bad start from Sevilla, Verdiblanco’s eternal rival. He maliciously left the Nervión club after an unfortunate incident with Monchi. The then sporting director of Sevilla even attacked him. “The renewal will be easy because both Betis and I want to prolong our journey together. We have created a wonderful relationship and for my part I will try to prolong it as much as possible. I will take more care of myself than ever to try to play on the new field. It would be an important and very beautiful challenge”, said Isco, who will eternally thank Betis for having bet on him when things were at their worst, in the summer of 2023. After training for six months as alone, without a team, Betis signed the national team to cover the loss of Sergio Canales, who moved to Mexican football.

“It’s something I will never forget, it will remain in my heart forever,” clarified Isco, referring to the possibility of playing the 2026 World Cup with Spain. “It’s a dream, but we have to go step by step. The first thing is to get back to my best level,” he clarified. And to return, even if not at the maximum, that derby date of November 30th, which will surely come with the signed renewal: “The derby is very special for our people, it is a very important moment. My teammates are at a high level and I have to progress. The objective is to win it to entertain our people”.

Isco was also very candid in expressing how he feels now that he has started training with the group. “Fear always exists. The fear of a relapse does not disappear. Just today I received a blow to my ankle and I was afraid. The fear of no longer being the Isco I was before is something very profound. However, the formula is work and work. I have already returned to my best level after a serious injury and now the challenge is there again”, clarified the Betic midfielder.

“I wanted to make a documentary and move away from what is normal in these cases. It is a film in which I wanted to touch on the mental aspect. The fear that an elite athlete feels. Men have been educated to suffer in a stoic way. I wanted to show that you can suffer in another way”, clarified Sara Sálamo, the director of the documentary on Isco’s recovery. An interesting document that reflects very personal moments of the player’s recovery after the serious injury.
