Black-Red Coalition
SPD Lies politicians complain that expectations are too high
Olaf Lies warns: Excessive expectations of quick solutions have a bad impact on politics. The new federal government had many things planned that could not be implemented quickly.
Lower Saxony Prime Minister Olaf Lies has called on the black-red coalition in the federal government to better manage expectations. There is an impression created that a lot can be achieved in a very short time, the SPD politician told the German editorial network. “The impression that emerges: There is a new government and everything is changing.” But: “It’s impossible to solve all the problems in six months. And the economy doesn’t grow immediately just because there’s a change of government.” Many good things have been decided.
Lies also criticized the tendency to base political debates on drastic demands. “The push for trophies – the abolition of the combustion engine, the abolition of heating laws – isn’t very helpful. What are people supposed to do if something is overturned? They want to know where it’s going,” Lies said. Joint solutions such as the completion of the combustion engine must be communicated to the outside world. “It is important that there is no longer any talk about the end of the combustion engine.”
