The body of an elderly woman who disappeared after the collapse of her house which occurred yesterday morning in Brazzano, Cormons hamlet (Gorizia province), due to a landslide caused by bad weather that hit Friuli Venezia Giulia, was found by firefighters in the evening. The woman was identified shortly after 10pm, but recovery operations were interrupted due to rain, making it too dangerous to work due to the risk of new slope failures. When weather conditions improved, rescue teams successfully completed the recovery.
In the afternoon, firefighters found the body of another missing person, German citizen Quirin Kuhnert, 32 years old. No more people are missing from the appeal.
The landslide that inundated the house was caused by heavy rain which fell heavily on the area between Palmanova and Gorizia provinces. The greatest damage was recorded in Cormons, where 152 millimeters of rain fell in just six hours. The Judrio River overflowed, causing major flooding.
