Bonelli, ‘The Meloni government did not sign the roadmap because it is in league with the fossil lobby’ – Il Tempo

Rome, 22 Nov (Adnkronos) – “COP 30 closed with a very serious step backwards for the future of our planet. The lack of a roadmap for the transition from fossil fuels and stopping deforestation is a direct consequence of the enormous pressure exerted by the fossil lobby, even ignoring the strong push for concrete solutions proposed by Brazilian President Lula”. Angelo Bonelli, AVS MP and one of the spokespersons for Green Europe, had this to say.

“While the world should be moving forward resolutely towards a future where global warming is limited to 1.5 °C, instead we are witnessing a criminal setback. Italy unfortunately sided with the fossil fuel lobby, following Trump’s stance: Italy has not signed the declaration of countries asking to include two fundamental roadmaps in the final decision,” he continued.

“Minister Pichetto has stated that he does not oppose the roadmap and that he does not stand in the way of the European Union, but the fact is that neither Italy’s nor the EU’s signature appears in the final document. This risks being a political and environmental failure that future generations will have to bear. We can no longer hesitate or compromise with the interests of the fossil lobby”, concludes Bonelli
