Before sitting down at the table to determine an alternative program to defeat Giorgia Meloni in the 2027 elections, the president of the 5 Star Movement wants to hear from his base, from his community, what priorities must be included in the common political agenda. And therefore a construction site. This doesn’t actually mean stopping camp building – broad, progressive, left-wing, whatever you want – but rather delaying it until we have a clearer idea, with the goal of bringing the majority of citizens back to the polls who, now, even when they won by a landslide, decided to stay home.
“The movement – explained Conte in a long post on social media – was not born to be satisfied, to guarantee the practice of power. The Movement Revolution was born to encourage the widest possible participation of citizens in political life. It is time to build a program to make Italy stand tall again.” But how? The answer is easy to say: a year after the Constituent Assembly, the former prime minister launched Nova 2.0, in which “a new program construction site with major changes will be openeda strong proposal for our young generation, for Italy, for Europe”.
“I will then take what emerges from this process of openness to popular and grassroots demands into discussions with other political forces on the progressive side to give the country a new government program. A program that cannot simply be the result of an exchange of views between party leaders, that cannot contain downward compromise.”
However, not anytime soon. Based on what we have learned, this new phase in building ideas and proposals should not become clear before the start of the new year. “There is a battle to be fought regarding this maneuver – this is the reason that comes from the Campo Marzio area –. Society and business are on their knees, with the government’s budget law not helping them and for us now it is important to focus on this.”

Today I can be satisfied with a landslide victory, having defeated the leading exponent of the Meloni government with the M5S candidate – our Roberto Fico – by 25 points. But I cannot close my eyes to the fact that there are still many people who do not feel involved in politics. They don’t go to vote. They do not believe that politics can change their lives”, stressed Conte.

It’s time to build a program to get Italy back on its feet where real wages are plummeting, poverty is at an all-time high, education is stalling, society is giving up on healthcare, insecurity in cities is rising, growth is at zero and we will be the last people in Europe in the next three years while children’s futures are being mortgaged by spending billions of dollars on weapons and military spending.”
“In recent years we have been experimenting, with M5S, a new way to listen and involve citizens in decision-making, so that they influence public choices. Exactly one year ago we experimented with Nova. And now I want to replicate the method that brings together our members, civil society, experts with the Movement to build priorities and programs that start from the bottom and where everyone will be able to take into account and contribute to the choices taken.”
