Boycott America
Klingbeil: There were no US politicians at the G20 summit in South Africa
A summit of leading economies without the US? The Vice Chancellor wants to meet with the US representative in South Africa. But the Trump administration appears to be completely boycotting the G20 summit.
According to Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, US politicians will not attend this weekend’s G20 summit in South Africa. “I regret that America is not present. This is a decision taken by America,” said the SPD politician on the sidelines of political talks in Singapore.
While at a meeting of G20 finance ministers in Durban a few months ago, the United States was represented “at least at an official level,” “that doesn’t seem to be the case now,” Klingbeil said.
At the same time, he stressed that there are still many interesting discussion partners for Germany – especially as the federal government wants to build new strategic partnerships. Klingbeil wanted to fly from Singapore to Johannesburg; usually the finance minister accompanies the Chancellor at the G20 summit.
