In the video, we can also see a crane operator dressed as Santa Claus jumping from the machine at the time of the accident. According to police, quoted by Globo, the latter was on sick leave and receiving a disability pension. “This means that this is a person who is not fit for work, even though he works there,” explained Marcelo Martins from the Integrated Resort Police (DIP) 24. The crane operator was arrested shortly after the incident.

According to Brazil’s Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, the crash was caused by a technical failure, CNN reported. Civil police are in charge of the investigation.
