Weekend closures of the Köhlbrand Bridge in the Port of Hamburg are scheduled to begin on Friday at 10 p.m. The closure is planned until Monday at 5 am, as announced by the federal Autobahn GmbH. The A7 is not closed during this time. Starting Friday morning, bridge access via Finkenwerder Street will only be possible on one lane for three hours.
The reason for the work under the motorway bridge is the expansion of the A7 lane from six to eight lanes. For this purpose, work is underway on the Köhlbrand Bridge under the motorway. Final renovation work is planned there. Additionally, the temporary bypass will be removed and the original route under the A7 will be restored.
The detour is signposted: Traffic is diverted via Finkenwerder Straße, Waltershofer Straße, Fürstenmoordamm, Kattwykdamm, Moorburger Hauptdeich, Rethedamm and Roßdamm.
Landmarks and important traffic routes
Like the Michel, city hall, and Elbphilharmonie, the Köhlbrand Bridge is a Hamburg landmark and is considered one of the most important traffic arteries in the harbor. This 135 meter high structure is a link between the port and the A1 and A7 motorways and is used by many trucks.
