BSW crisis
Three Brandenburg MPs remain with the BSW
The resignation of several BSW politicians plunged the group into crisis. Someone reversed the exit. Keep it that way for now.
After four members of the BSW state parliament in Brandenburg left the party, one rejoined – but three others stuck to their decision. This was revealed by members of parliament Jouleen Gruhn, Melanie Matzkies and André von Ossowski to the German Press Agency. Matzkies said he had “unfinished” considerations.
The four MPs announced their resignation from BSW about two weeks ago. The reasons they gave included “authoritarian tendencies” and the increasing dominance of radical positions in the BSW. Simon said on Tuesday that he realized he could do more inside the party than outside it. The current state of the group opens up a way “that we can get closer to each other and I want to be involved in that.”
The BSW state parliamentary group is in crisis after the party withdrew, which also put the SPD/BSW coalition in dire straits. This was sparked by a dispute over broadcasting reform, which was rejected by the majority of parliamentary groups in the state parliament. The three still-resigning MPs left the plenary room at last week’s vote so as, in their own words, not to jeopardize the group’s majority line.
Former deputy head of the BSW parliamentary group Christian Dorst is considering the possibility of leaving the party. On Friday, Dorst reacted with understanding to statements made by the AfD’s main candidate from Saxony-Anhalt, Ulrich Siegmund, about the Nazi era. He later resigned after discussions with state leaders and parliamentary groups.
