A powerful explosion rocked the Ezeiza industrial area, in the south Buenos Aireslight a fire. This was stated by Mayor Ezeiz Gaston Granados as reported by AFP. “The explosions and fires that occurred in various factories were very large,” he added.

The explosion disrupted visibility in the area and, according to local press, left several people injured. It happened in an industrial complex in the town of Carlos Spegazzini and, according to local media, left at least 15 people injured. Many flights arriving at the international airport, not far from the explosion site, were delayed or diverted and one of the access roads to the airport was blocked, as reported by the Efe agency. Mayor Ezeiza Gastón Granados told TN news channel that the cause and location of the explosion were still unknown. He said the fire hit several factories in the industrial area. “One of them was a chemical factory whose warehouse containing agricultural materials and fertilizer caught fire – he said – there was also a plastic production factory.” According to medical sources quoted by local media, most of the injured were local residents, who suffered light to moderate injuries from burns, multiple trauma and broken glass from the shock wave. Regarding the explosion that occurred this evening in the Ezeiza region, the Ministry of Health reports that provincial and municipal hospitals in the region are working together in a coordinated network, ready to receive and treat all those who may be affected, reports the Buenos Aires Provincial Ministry of Health.
