A tragedy that had a serious impact on train traffic. At 08.30 a woman – a school assistant from a school in Sapri – committed suicide by throwing herself onto the tracks near Praja-Ajeta-Tortora station, in the Cosenza area, when Frecciarossa 8418 Reggio Calabria–Venice arrived. The train hit and killed the woman.
Due to this reason, traffic came to a complete standstill for a long time. And it resumed gradually, only at 14.50, after obtaining approval from the Judicial Authority. The recovery operation and authorities’ investigation took several hours. Hakim himself managed to arrive only four hours after the accident.
During the disruption, a replacement bus service between Sapri and Paola was active. However, the railway network experienced very serious slowdowns on several routes. By waiting up to eight hours.
Train 8418 which departed at 5.53 from Reggio Calabria Centrale to Venice Santa Lucia traveled 500 minutes late, while train 9584 which departed at 6.25 from Reggio Calabria and headed to Turin Porta Nuova traveled 414 minutes late, less than 7 hours. At Naples Centrale station, delays for affected trains were reported to be between 250 and 390 minutes.
