Camilo Castro, a French citizen, has been detained since late June in Venezuela. This was announced by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. “Camilo Castro is free – we read in the post on X – I share the relief of his loved ones and I thank everyone who worked for his release”.
Castro, 41, disappeared on June 26 at the Paraguachon border crossing, between Venezuela and Colombia, where he lived. He had to renew his residence permit in Colombia, his family announced in August. In mid-September, the mother explained that she had no longer heard from her son, except for a voice message in late July asking for help. The family and Amnesty International later concluded that he was being detained by Venezuelan authorities.
