The call to tender for television rights for the next cycle of European football cups – the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League – is unique. The results, announced Thursday 20 November, also went against all predictions. Launched in mid-October for the 2027 to 2031 season, it concerns the five largest markets in Europe (England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France), but also, for the first time, an international batch aimed at “mondovision” intended to attract American streaming platforms Netflix, AppleTV+, Prime Video, Paramount and the UK’s DAZN.
To everyone’s surprise, in the end it was the broadcaster of all European football matches in France, the private audiovisual group Canal+, who managed to survive by providing the best offer, although the offer was not disclosed by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
