Census: This is how people live in Saxony

About one in three Saxon households lived within their own four walls. The homeownership rate was 34.2 percent at the 2022 census, as announced by the State Statistics Office in Kamenz. But it depends on the size of the community. This is how people live in the Free State:

Rent in the city, property in the country

Residents in Leipzig are the group least likely to live in property – here the figure is just 13.3 percent. However, in the municipality of Trossin in the district of North Saxony, 88.4 percent of households own their own home. According to statisticians, homeownership rates are more than two-thirds in many rural areas, but less than half that in large communities of more than 10,000 people.

This is what the average apartment looks like

Those who live in their own property have an average living space of 109 square meters spread over five rooms. For couples with children the area is around 130 square meters and five to six rooms.

The relationship between life situations and property

According to information, couples with children also live in their own property more often than couples without children. They also mostly live in their own homes rather than renting. For couples who do not have children, the distribution is equal. In contrast, single parents mostly live in rent.
