Eintracht Frankfurt – Atalanta Bergamo 0:3 (0:0)
It’s not a good day for the German team: both FC Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt lost their matches in the Champions League.
Frankfurt conceded three goals in the home match against Atalanta Bergamo (0:3) and now have to fight for a place in the knockout phase. Champions League Afraid. Ademola Lookman (60th minute), Ederson (62nd) and Charles De Ketelaere (65th) scored for Bergamo in front of nearly 60,000 spectators.
With four points from five matches and three defeats, Eintracht now desperately needs success to secure a place in the top 24. On December 9 the team will visit FC Barcelona at Camp Nou. Atalanta Bergamo, on the other hand, is in the play-off race with ten points.
Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller surprisingly offered the same starting lineup as in the away win at Cologne four days earlier (4:3). Early in the game, Frankfurt had more of the ball against Bergamo, with the agile Doan in particular causing problems for the Italian side with his rapid dribbling in the first half.
Bergamo were much better after the break and Eintracht Frankfurt fell behind: after a duel with goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, striker Jonathan Burkardt suffered an unfortunate landing and appeared to have a knee injury. He limped off the pitch supported by the guard and was replaced by Jean-Mattéo Bahoya.
Immediately after Burkardt’s substitution, Eintracht collapsed completely and the Italian team won the match with three goals in five minutes.
Arsenal FC – Bayern Munich 3:1 (1:1)
Bayern Munich’s long winning record was broken in the match against Arsenal FC in London (3-1). They previously went 18 matches without defeat. With the defeat against Arsenal, the German record champions also lost their lead in the Champions League. The round of 16 is still within reach.
Jurriën Timber (22nd minute), Noni Madueke (69th) and Gabriel Martinelli (76th) scored for the hosts. In the English drizzle, Arsenal were successful from the first corner. Meanwhile, 17 year old Lennart Karl (32) managed to equalize. Goalkeeper Neuer did not perform well when he conceded the first and third goals.
The England team’s victory was mainly due to improved performance in the second half. Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has declared Arsenal a “real board”. The London team confidently leads the domestic Premier League and started the Champions League as perfectly as Bayern with four wins. The Gunners welcomed the German record champions with the same confidence, who found it difficult to get into the game.
“You have to accept that you will lose sometimes,” said national player Serge Gnabry after the match on DAZN: “Arsenal are a very strong opponent, it’s not for nothing that they’ve won all their games so far. They had phases where they pushed us back with a lot of corners. We didn’t manage to do much in the second half.”
