A tragedy whose circumstances remain to be clarified. A 57-year-old man lost his life after falling from a balcony last Friday in Saint-Jean-d’Angély (Charente-Maritime), our colleagues from L’Angérien libre report.

According to the daily, a judicial investigation was opened this Monday by the investigating judge of the La Rochelle court. In this case, the suspect was charged with murder, then imprisoned by a justice of liberty and detention, according to the prosecutor’s request.

The night of the tragedy, one drunken night, the victim found herself hanging in the air, from the 4th floor of a building, held by her legs by the man she had spent the night with. The latter was a 39-year-old apartment tenant who was charged and placed in pre-trial detention.

The apartment was “in a state of chaos”, according to public prosecutor Arnaud Laraize quoted by the local press. According to the first element of the investigation, the intoxicated fifty-year-old man vomited “almost everywhere in the passenger compartment.” Her host then “threw” her from the balcony, according to a witness cited by prosecutors.

The defendant was known to the court by eight mentions in his criminal record (narcotics use, serious violence, etc.). The investigation continues, led by the Saint-Jean-d’Angély gendarmerie brigade. The results of the toxicology analysis have not been released.
