Charity event: FC Bayern boss Hainer talks about his late wife’s dementia

Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer announced that his wife, who died in August 2024, was suffering from dementia. Hainer told reporters about the illness at the football champions’ record museum, where FC Bayern was holding an event.

There, an initial assessment of the campaign entitled “Forever Number 1” – FC Bayern’s Suitcase of Memories was taken. Since autumn 2023, Munich employees have been going to social institutions with suitcases containing memorabilia from Bayern’s history, such as second-hand jerseys, entry tickets or autograph cards. This is intended to help people with Alzheimer’s or dementia remember previous times.

Hoeneß doubled the donation to the Alzheimer’s Society

People should “feel the moment, laugh, cry and sing together. The emotions triggered by football are unique,” Hainer said. “If dementia sufferers smile again when they see Bayern’s old shirt and remember Uli Hoeneß’s goal, then we have achieved a lot.”

Honorary President Uli Hoeneß emphasized that FC Bayern must always fulfill its social responsibilities, such as these actions. He spontaneously doubled FC Bayern Hilfe eV’s donation of 12,500 euros to the Alzheimer Society Munich eV to 25,000 euros on stage.
