China warns its citizens against traveling to Japan – Air China wants to refund full travel costs in case of cancellation.

Amid escalating diplomatic row, China has advised its citizens not to travel to Japan until further notice. A statement published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo said that Japanese politicians had recently “severely burdened” the atmosphere of mutual exchanges with “blatantly provocative statements about Taiwan” and had “significantly endangered” the safety of Chinese citizens in Japan.
Several Chinese airlines, including Air China, announced that they would provide full refunds to ticket holders if they cancel trips to Japan. Therefore, this offer is valid for flight tickets to Japan up to and including December 31st. According to the latest data from the Japan Tourism Authority, Chinese nationals made up the largest group of foreign tourists this year.
