Christy with Sydney Sweeney failed at the box office

There is no peace around American actress Sydney Sweeney. At the end of October she made a splash with her appearance in a sparkling silver transparent dress. The “Bild” cheekily called it a “see-through dress”. Now about the film “Christy”, a biographical film about boxer Christy Martin, in which Sweeney plays the main role, which has been released in American cinemas.

During boxing training for the film, Sweeney reportedly suffered a concussion and a bloody nose. On Monday he posted a picture from the film on Instagram showing him in a scene in the ring with boxing gloves and – also – a bloody nose, sometimes grinning. He wrote that he was proud of the film. He symbolizes “survival, courage and hope”.

This new film was a flop

But Sweeney didn’t just have to endure being a boxer on set. According to “Box Office Mojo,” the film also failed at the box office: it only grossed $1.3 million in its first weekend. This makes the film the 13th worst film released of all time.

It’s unclear if this has anything to do with the controversial American Eagle ad. The summer campaign revolves around the phrase “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” which sounds like “Sydney Sweeney has great genes.” Accusations of racism were leveled against the company and the blonde, blue-eyed actress.

In an interview with GQ magazine last week, Sweeney was asked if he was worried that people wouldn’t want to see his new film because of the publicity. He said if anyone feels that way, he hopes something different will make people interested in art and open to learning something new. He didn’t touch it himself.

The ad sparked debate about Sweeney’s political views. The actress denied it in a “GQ” interview: “I did a jeans commercial. I mean, the reaction to the commercial was really surprising, but I love jeans.”

Sweeney’s alleged political views are now also said to be the reason the actress fell out with her colleague, Zendaya. As reported by the Daily Mail, the two of them avoid appearing together in public. According to media reports, Zendaya reportedly refused a joint promotional tour for the third season of the series “Euphoria”. He is considered an opponent of Trump’s positions, while Sweeney is a registered Republican.
