The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had a three-month humanitarian mission in Sudan’s civil war Ceasefire announced. The move was taken “in response to international efforts, in particular at the initiative of US President Donald Trump and mediators,” RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo said in a video recording.
Sudanese military chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan previously rejected a similar proposal. The two warring parties are fighting for power in the West African republic Sudan. The civil war that has been ongoing since 2023 has caused famine, ethnic violence and the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians. Last week, at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump announced that he would work to end the civil war.
