At auction, Claude François and Johnny Hallyday’s hair was tied up: a small lock of Cloclo and two rocker combs sold for 780 euros each (including fees), Saturday in Paris.
These two lots are part of a sale devoted to “French and International Songs”, organized by the Coutau-Bégarie auction house, with Fabien Lecoeuvre, specialist in French-language songs, as expert.
Auctioned to an anonymous buyer, “several strands of hair” of Claude François had been “recovered from a comb used only” for him, “by his hairdresser, in February 1976”, two years before his accidental death due to electric shock, according to the auction house. They were sold at a lower price than they expected, between 1,000 and 1,200 euros without fees.
Two of Johnny Hallyday’s stage combs had been “thrown by the rocker into the room, during his concert at the Palais des Sports in Paris” in October 1976. Several strands of hair of the teen idol who died in December 2017 were still stuck to the combs. This comb was obtained for a higher price than they expected, between 250 and 300 euros.
The items for sale belong to Gainsbourg and Mike Brant
More than half of the approximately 400 lots are items that belonged to Johnny Hallyday, or were related to him.
Among them, the army jacket given to him for military service in 1964 was sold for 2,600 euros (including fees).
In other lots, a quarterly diary used by Serge Gainsbourg in 1961 sold for 5,070 euros (including fees), and a trophy given in 1974 to Mike Brant found a buyer for 15,210 euros (including fees). The Israeli singer was later hospitalized in Switzerland after his first suicide attempt.
