I was not at the Bataclan on November 13, 2015. However, it took a long time to get back there, due to the long distance due to collective trauma. Kevin Morby must pass there, in May 2022, so that I can reopen the door to the room on Boulevard Voltaire.
I know he will play Beautiful Strangerthe song is a tribute to the victims of November 13th. From the first note, tears came to my eyes. Cheeks all around me lit up as the song progressed. The moment was beautiful, cathartic. I can now return to the Bataclan.
The following year, I was asked to document a concert on behalf of the hall. I’ve photographed about forty nights there, interested in what happens on stage and in the pit. On concert nights, I often play the first three songs at the edge of the stage, concentrating on the artist, then I walk around the room, to change points of view and, most importantly, to be among the audience and photograph them in all their states. I also try to show the details and gestures that, to me, are synonymous with healing. Here, a helping hand; there, hearts with fingers; and, on the other side of the room, the same love. By photographing them, I participated in the development of a collective story after the event.
