New exhibition brings “Alice in Wonderland” to the forefront
A white rabbit shows the way: Families and photography fans can now visit the shining world of “Alice in Wonderland” in Cologne. The outdoor exhibition opens at dusk.
In the coming months, curious people will be able to explore one of the world’s most amazing stories in Cologne – told with thousands of lights. The “Garden of Lights – Alice in Wonderland” exhibition opened Friday and is held in the open air at the city’s expansive racetrack. It is aimed among others at families with children – and people who like taking photos in front of a special backdrop.
To bring to life the characters and scenes from the classic children’s book “Alice in Wonderland” (1865) by Englishman Lewis Carroll, the project works with various illuminations, sounds, and also some interactive elements. The tour begins in a light-filled tunnel – analogous to the rabbit hole through which Alice enters a fantastical world full of strange characters in the books. Also in this exhibition, you will gradually encounter the strange characters from the famous original film: the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts.
The tour lasts about one hour. Ticket prices vary depending on the day of the week and sales method. The exhibition is open from Wednesday to Sunday after dark.
Similar “Garden of Lights” projects already exist in several cities and countries, including Poland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. “Alice in Wonderland” will be on display in Cologne until February 15, 2026.
