Court: After shots are fired in court: punishment of the siblings is expected

In February 2025, shots were fired in front of the Bielefeld regional court. A day of court hearings surrounding the violent death of former professional boxer Besar Nimani had just ended in the building. The athlete was shot in the city center of Bielefeld. One of the perpetrators (34 years old) was arrested and later convicted of heinous murder, the other is still at large today. It is still unclear why Nimani died from 16 gunshots in March 2024. During the trial surrounding his death, the defendant’s relatives also left the court building in February 2025.

Then shots were fired in front of the court, which was said to be about blood revenge. Public prosecutors accused at least two siblings of doing this. The gunfire sparked a major police operation in Bielefeld city center. The search for one of the shooters continued for hours. Four people were injured, some of them critically. This includes three relatives of the 34-year-old man, who was convicted in April 2025.

During the trial, the defendant’s brother admitted to shooting. He acted out of fear and self-defense. His younger brother is also said to have been involved in the shooting. The attempted murder trial began in August. Negotiations were originally scheduled to last until the new year. The regional court has now completed taking evidence and is expected to announce its verdict on Thursday (20 November).

Nimani’s older brother and sister are German and were born in Kosovo.
