The new security decree will soon be approved by the Council of Ministers. Matteo Salvini (pictured) accelerated the steps to be taken: first of all, faster evictions of occupied houses, a crackdown on the reunification of migrant families and baby gangs. Greater protection for police officers is also being considered. The League’s goal is to “improve citizen protection and law enforcement”. There will be discussions in the coming days with other majority powers to develop a common text, and Salvini said he had consulted with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. Therefore, eviction is a top priority. With the provisions contained in the previous security decree, the process of returning illegally occupied properties to their legal owners has been accelerated, with rapid evictions by the police, but limiting the application of these measures to the first house only. Now the goal is to expand the action to all other properties as well. Also discussed was the FdI’s proposal to introduce a special procedure allowing the intervention of court officials in cases of eviction. It will be managed by a new body: the Authority for the enforcement of evictions, which will report to the Ministry of Justice and which owners can contact directly.
In the field of migrants, one of the goals is to limit the possibility of family reunification to only spouses and minor children. Therefore, adult children and other relatives are not included. The league is also pushing for residence permits with points to be deducted from the document for every crime a foreigner commits, up to and including repatriation. Another phenomenon that this provision aims to intervene in is the phenomenon of baby gangs.
For crimes committed by children between the ages of 12 and 14, the police commissioner issues warnings to parents of minors who, in the most serious cases, are subject to fines. We also want to make crimes such as theft and pickpocketing prosecutable, without reporting the victim.
