The Islamic Party has arrived in Italy. No longer just in Monfalcone or with Muslim candidates on the lists of various political forces but in Rome, the capital of Italy and adherents of the Catholic faith. This was announced on social media by the new group «MuRo27 – Muslims for Rome 2027» which declares itself to be working for the next administrative elections.
It is an initiative promoted by “Muslims who live, study and work in the capital and want to contribute to political discussions”. The inspiration came from Zohran Mamdani’s victory as mayor of New York which «usefully underscored the backwardness of our political class compared to the real society in which we live which is incidentally multicultural». Hence the observation that “the political relevance of the presence of Islam in Italy, compared with the contribution it can make to society, can currently be assessed as almost insignificant”.
Therefore, “the MuRo27 group intends to promote and stimulate political ideas and proposals regarding collective utility consistent with the religious affiliation of its members”.
It’s natural to ask who is the mastermind behind this initiative. Lacking names and references, we tried calling the number listed in the press release and not only did we not receive a response but, having written that we wanted information
for Il Giornale they hung up. Not a liberal or transparent way of acting. However, on the social pages of the movement, there is a photo of the Colosseum surmounted by a crescent moon and a post supporting the pair Ignazio Marino – Virginia Raggi as candidates for the next administrative elections in the capital, which shows how Roman Muslims look to the left.
In the past there have been Muslim candidates for municipal elections in Rome (in 2021 the disguised candidate Mariam Ali, daughter of Imam Magliana, caused discussion) but this time we are faced with the intention to bring to life a real list. In recent months, MP Aboubakar Soumahoro promoted the «Italy Plural» Islamic list in Monfalcone, gaining 2.9% with the aim of expanding the project to the national level.
If Italy cannot yet match countries such as France, Belgium or England where the number of Muslim voters is very large, then the influence of Islam is also growing in our country. Suffice it to say that, according to data from the ISMU Foundation, around 1.7 million Muslims live in Italy, including foreigners and citizens, with the number of nationalities set to increase. The impact of the growing presence of Islam, without reaching the scenario described by Michel Houellebecq in his book Submission,
This is an influence in political choices as seen in France and England with the recognition of the State of Palestine.
When hearing the news about the possible entry of a Muslim party in the administrative elections in Rome, political reactions were not long in coming, including that of League Member of the European Parliament Anna Maria Cisint: «the presence of a party composed entirely of Muslims alone is a dangerous departure from the libertic and anti-Western vision it promotes, an expression of the most vulgar political Islamism which intends to insert itself into our institutions in order to subvert them and which, for this reason,
it must be banned and disbanded immediately.”
The risk is that after London and New York, Rome may also have an Islamic mayor in the not too distant future, a dystopian scenario in the city of St. Petersburg. Peter.
