Crime: Baby shaken to death? – Trial against adoptive mother

A 33-year-old man from the Bamberg district is said to have shaken his one-and-a-half-year-old foster child so hard that he died from the injuries. The woman will appear before Bamberg regional court from Tuesday (9am) on charges of manslaughter. The public prosecutor accused the defendant of allowing the child’s injuries.

The 21-month-old was taken to hospital on December 8, 2024 with life-threatening internal injuries, and he died two days later. Suspicions immediately arose that external violence may have been the cause of the child’s injuries.

Police and public prosecutor investigations initially targeted the two foster parents. Ultimately, investigators came to the conclusion that the then 32-year-old foster mother caused the injuries to the nearly two-year-old child. The woman was then detained.

The child’s biological mother is one of the plaintiffs in the trial. There are five more dates planned through December 5.
