Crime: Hostage taking: Father and son race away from police on the A72

In Hartmannsdorf near Chemnitz POLICE ending the escape of a 42-year-old father and his six-year-old child. According to police, the man gained access to the apartment of his ex-partner and their two children on Wednesday morning. There was a custody dispute between the parents.

After a heated argument broke out in the apartment, the man is said to have grabbed the six-year-old child. When police arrived shortly afterwards, the 42-year-old man pulled the child into a car and fled towards Penig. He ran along Autobahn 72.

After a long pursuit with several patrol cars and a helicopter, police officers finally managed to stop the vehicle at the Hartmannsdorf T-junction. The driver again tried to flee, crashed into the patrol car while backing up and eventually surrendered.

Police freed the child from the car unharmed and then took him back to his mother. The 42 year old man was arrested. He is now on trial, among other things Hostage taking and hazards to road traffic are determined. He will be brought before an investigating judge, he said.
