In Saxony, thieves are increasingly causing damage and looking for valuables in apartments. That POLICE 1,176 cases were reported in the first six months. This number increased by 17.7 percent compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs in response to dpa’s request.
The resulting losses therefore amounted to almost 2.9 million euros – an increase of 34.6 percent. “This marks a three-year high in both the number of cases and the amount of damage.”
Police advise on protection against thieves
In addition to material losses, police experience shows that these break-ins also come as a shock to many of the people affected. The psychological consequences of violating privacy and security are said to be more distressing to victims than material losses. Saxony Police departments offer specific advice on burglar protection.
According to experts, in addition to technical measures, rules of conduct also help. When leaving the apartment, the front door should always be double locked – even if you only have to walk a short distance. Windows should also be closed. If it is only tilted, it can be easily opened by thieves.
Thieves use social networks for research
Keeping a spare key under the doormat or in a flower pot is also not a good idea. And anyone going on holiday should make sure their mailbox is emptied and window shades are raised and lowered regularly, according to the police union. Thieves also use social networks to research possible victims. Therefore, your address and travel intentions should not be shared there.
According to the police, it is a good idea to secure property, buildings, doors and windows. Specialist companies can help with this. A large number of robberies fail, also because appropriate security technology has been used.
