Italy’s goal – despite being coached by Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti – is to defend the titles won in 2023 and 2024.
The captain of the Italian team, Filippo Volandri, relies on Flavio Cobolli, Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego as single players, and Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli for doubles.
The winner between Italy and Austria will face Belgium in the semifinals. The team led by captain Steve Darcis actually managed to beat France after two men’s singles matches and inaugurated the prestigious national team tennis tournament.
In the first match, Raphael Collignon beat French player Corentin Moutet in the third set (2-6, 7-5, 7-5), while in the second match Belgian Zizou Bergs overtook Arthur Rinderknech, with a hard fight in the second set (6-3, 7-6).
In Davis’ first match, a minor controversy arose among the public which delayed the start of the first match for several minutes. In fact, from the stands, a number of spectators complained about poor visibility of the match because it was limited by cameras placed in front of them on the pitch.
