The future of the Minister of Defense is open
BVB sporting director provides the latest news on Schlotterbeck poker
Poker regarding a possible contract extension for Nico Schlotterbeck is a topic of discussion at BVB. A video of the rally sparked rumors. Sports director Kehl reacted.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has denied rumors about an alleged dispute between him and BVB professional Nico Schlotterbeck during contract talks with the national football player. “Everything is fine. There is a lot to interpret into it,” said Kehl after Dortmund’s 4-0 (1-0) Champions League win against FC Villarreal.
Video footage of the club’s general meeting last Sunday was hotly discussed. Kehl was seen greeting all the players with a handshake when they arrived at the event. Defense chief Schlotterbeck, who is being courted by other top clubs and whose contract at Dortmund expires in the summer of 2027, walked past Kehl without saying hello.
Rally scene “a bit unfortunate”
“Of course it seems a bit unfortunate,” said Kehl, who said he “also had some fun with Schlotti” about the interpretation of the video excerpt.
Kehl indirectly emphasized that efforts to extend the 25 year old player’s contract would be difficult. “I know Schlotti is thinking a lot,” said the sporting director. “We tried to provide framework conditions that offered an attractive environment for Schlotti. Ultimately, he wants to be successful, he wants to play for titles. We all want that.”
FC Bayern and other top European clubs are reportedly interested in bringing in Schlotterbeck. If the defender does not want to extend his contract early, BVB can only charge a high transfer fee next summer. “In the end there will have to be a decision. We hope this decision will have a positive impact,” Kehl said and announced: “We will also move economically.”
