Julian Nagelsmann (38) speaks clearly!
Plum World Cup qualifying match between the national teams of Germany and Luxembourg The national coach spoke in an interview with RTL presenter Laura Wontorra (36) and expert Lothar Matthäus (64) about returning DFB player Leroy Sané (29) – and wanted to clarify something.
After the trio spoke about the return of the winger, who has been out for two DFB games, they were supposed to talk about stand-in captain Jonathan Tah (replacing the ailing Joshua Kimmich) – but Nagelsmann still had something to say about Sané.
Nagelsmann: “Maybe I can say another sentence to Leroy that is also important: In the end, I evaluate how he plays, even if it puts pressure on him. That’s normal. We also have pressure in the World Cup qualifiers. We also have to show a good game.”
And further: “In the end I assess whether he took advantage of the opportunity or not. That is a very crucial point, because the basis for the evaluation remains with us in the coaching team.”

Why the announcement? National record player Matthäus was previously mildly critical of Nagelsmann’s approach following Sané’s re-nomination. At a press conference, national coach Sané made a difficult announcement.
Matthäus: “I would prefer to clarify something like that internally. Because it would put a lot of pressure on him. We know how Leroy is perceived in public.”
And: “But of course Julian knows him better. We don’t always have to choose the same path.”
