DIRECT. Around 2,000 people demonstrated against the mafia in Ajaccio and Bastia

This Saturday, starting at 14.00, two processions will leave simultaneously through the streets of Bastia and Ajaccio behind the same banner: “Assassini, maffiosi, fora!”. Last March, the first mobilization gathered more than 1,500 people in the imperial city. This time, the call for unity comes from unprecedented coordination that brings together two collectives and several associations.

Departing from the courthouse in Bastia and the Ajaccio train station, this Saturday 15 November, two anti-mafia processions will be paraded starting at 14.00. As on March 8, at the first anti-mafia demonstration, everyone will march under the same flag: “ Assassination, mafia, fora! “, (“murder, mafia, get out!“). Eight months later, an anti-mafia coordination was formed: uniting the two collectives,”Maffia isn’t it, a vita ié” And “Massimu Susinias well as associations.

This second anti-mafia demonstration is part of a context marked by two recent murders : last week, Youssif El Assioui, killed in front of his 8-year-old son, in Ghisonaccia and Romain Santini, shot dead in Borgo, on October 24.

On Boulevard Paoli, in Bastia, a minute’s silence was held in memory of the victims.

Near Ajaccio train station, demonstrators announced they would stop in front of the prefecture for a minute’s silence, before both groups made speeches. The procession will then proceed to the Corsican Assembly, where new speeches will be delivered regarding the proposed means of struggle.

Ajaccio elected official Charles Voglimacci is present with the demonstrators, while Ajaccio mayor and deputy Laurent Marcangeli will not attend.

In the imperial city, there is between 500 and 600 demonstrators at the start of the processionbut their ranks increased at the Cours Napoléon.

In Ajaccio, at the start of the procession, there was a banner paying tribute to Pierre Alessandri, a member of the agricultural workers’ union who was murdered last March in Sarrola-Carcopino.

In Bastia, the procession began its journey at around 14.20, with about 1500 demonstrators in his ranks.
