US President Donald Trump has pardoned 77 people involved in efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which was won by Democrat Joe Biden. “This proclamation ends the grave national injustice perpetrated against the American people…and continues the process of national reconciliation.“, stated a text dated Friday and posted online at X on the night of Sunday through Monday by Ed Martin, the senior official responsible for organizing presidential pardons.

Among the recipients of presidential pardons are Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former lawyer and former New York mayor, Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff in 2020, and John Eastman, a lawyer who proposed a strategy to prevent certification of the results. Among those affected are Boris Epshteyn, a longtime adviser to Donald Trump, and Sidney Powell, a conservative lawyer who has filed cases challenging the election results in key states.

Apart from his close circle, the president also pardoned dozens of Republican Party activists. This is a gift “complete, total and unconditional”underlines the text, which however determines it “pardons do not apply to the President of the United States.”
