Car accident? Woman in coma – the case changes

A woman is hit by a car in the middle of the night and fights for her life. The culprit behaved mysteriously. A few days later a change occurred.
What initially appeared to be a car accident, according to police in Saxony, may have been a criminal act. Police are investigating a 30-year-old man who allegedly deliberately hit his 32-year-old partner with a VW Polo.
At first everything looked like an ordinary traffic accident on a country road between Großbardau and Bernbruch, southeast of Leipzig. “A woman was hit by a car,” the police press release initially said. According to preliminary findings, there was a “collision between a car and a 32-year-old man” around 3 a.m. Sunday night. The woman was seriously injured and is said to have been in a coma since then.
Investigators now believe the man committed the crime intentionally. He was said to be a co-victim. As reported by the “Tag24” portal, the two of them reportedly spent that night at a discotheque. It is said that there was an argument there and the woman ended up walking away. It was unclear whether he wanted to walk the twelve kilometers to his apartment near Borna or drive with someone.
His partner then allegedly got behind the wheel of the VW and accelerated. Photos show the windshield shattered – apparently from the impact. After the collision, the man behaved unusually, the report said. He punched and strangled a witness who wanted to provide first aid – but then called emergency services himself moments later.
A breath alcohol test revealed that the driver had a blood alcohol level of more than 2 per mile. A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office confirmed the media report to RTL upon request. Authorities could not initially be reached via t-online on Wednesday.
On Monday, the Leipzig prosecutor’s office obtained an arrest warrant for the man and arrested the 30-year-old. He was accused of “malicious interference in road traffic to enable the commission of another crime causing serious harm to a person’s health,” “Tag24” and RTL reported unanimously.
