Dynamo Dresden: forced break for this professional | sport

Things haven’t been going well for Dynamo Dresden sportingly for weeks. Now there is further bad news for the team coached by coach Thomas Stamm (42).

It’s about midfielder Tony Menzel (20). The youngster played for the second division side’s U23 side last weekend. However, he was not too happy with the 3-1 win in the state league against SC Freital II.

The Dresden native fell on his arm moments before the end of the match and had to be taken to a clinic. There is a serious diagnosis: broken elbow!

Menzel was given a splint and now cannot practice or play. The downtime may be as little as two or three weeks.

Head coach Stamm has him and Jonas Oehmichen Second division match against Nuremberg (1:2) each enters the final phase. And that’s why he was once again ordered to the “second team” for further match practice. Whether this is the right step in the future for the further development of these two local crops is still controversially debated.

While Oehmichen at least had an added sense of achievement with a goal, Menzel’s performance now ended with a forced break.

The fact is: These two are currently no worse than their teammates. However, due to their age, they still have a lot of potential to be developed. And in Thomas Stamm, a coach who has a reputation for developing young players in particular. At least that’s what happened in Freiburg.

Using U23 players is financially beneficial

There is also a financial aspect, as the use of U23 players is financially rewarded by the DFL. This can really pay off. For example, Greuther Fürth received 2.2 million euros for the use of young professional players in the 2022/23 season, 1. FC Nürnberg 2 million and Schalke 1.8 million.

This philosophy has Dresden Dynamo already looking good under Ralf Minge (64). For the 2017/18 season, DFL Dynamo paid 987,776 euros as six licensed players met the criteria and were on the field regularly. SGD currently has five professionals in its squad. They just need to play if the money wants to flow…
