The national president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, linked Edson Andrade, who she identifies as one of the main promoters of the Generation Z march, as a worker of the National Action Party (PAN). Alcalde published on his social networks a contract in which Andrade would earn 2.1 million pesos for twelve months of service to manage the group’s social networks. “What a coincidence, this after Jorge Romero Herrera himself (the president of the PAN) underlined that the opposition only lacks violence,” he wrote on his profile.
Morena’s president used Andrade and her contract with the PAN to reinforce the official narrative that last Saturday’s march was coordinated by a network of opposition figures and international right-wing groups and not by young people dissatisfied with the government. “The young ‘non-partisan’ Edson Andrade, main promoter of the Generation Z march, was hired by the National Action Party in February 2025 for 2,106,810.00 divided into 12 payments which he continues to receive for 175,577.50 pesos,” Alcalde wrote. The publication appears in the contract in which Andrade undertakes to provide a digital strategy and social media management service for the Mexico City party.
Andrade used his social media profile to denounce the arrests of the protesters and ask Sheinbaum to release them. He also highlighted police abuses during protests and conditions of arrests. “President, young people are not the enemy, protesting is not a crime,” he said in one of his latest videos. When Sheinbaum displayed his photograph at the press conference at the National Palace, Andrade said it put him in a vulnerable situation in the face of organized crime, as he denounces the violence of criminals. “It won’t intimidate me, this Saturday’s march is the beginning of the youth movement. We don’t have a party, colors, a leader and much less do we have funding,” he underlined in an article in which he accused Morena of corruption.
Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, said in her morning briefing Wednesday that the information published by the mayor is “very interesting” and that it should serve to “document” and “analyze” last Saturday’s events. For the moment neither Jorge Romero Herrera nor Andrade have reacted to the accusations of Morena’s secretary.
