Midfielder Hugo Larsson (21) leaves the Swedish national team training camp in Marbella, Spain, on Tuesday. According to the Swedish Football Association, Larsson suffered an injury during training that will prevent him from playing in either of the two upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Slovenia. Curious: The association did not provide any information about the nature of the injury.

“After subsequent medical examinations, the midfielder was unable to play for Saturday’s match against Switzerland or Tuesday’s match against Slovenia and therefore left the team to continue his rehabilitation with his club,” the Swedish Football Association wrote on its website.

Sweden will face Switzerland in Geneva on Saturday and play their final World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in Solna on Tuesday. Sweden is in last place in Group B with just one point after four matches.

Whether Larsson can be fit for Frankfurt’s clash at 1. FC Cologne on Saturday in a week’s time will probably only be clear after his return and further examination by the Eintracht team doctor.
