Airbus will receive a large order from Boeing’s regular customer, Flydubai, for around 100 A321neo aircraft. The low-cost airline from Dubai, which has only relied on Boeing, is also negotiating the purchase of additional 737 Max jets.

According to insiders, Airbus has the prospect of large orders from low-cost airlines and Boeing’s regular customer, Flydubai. The European planemaker is close to completing an order for around 100 A321neo planes, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow.

Flydubai is negotiating with Boeing over an order for several dozen 737 Max jets. Until now, this fast-growing airline has relied solely on Boeing for narrow-body aircraft. The Airbus A321neo is a short and medium range aircraft and the largest member of the Airbus A320neo family. The addition of “neo” stands for “New Engine Option” – and refers to technological improvements over the previous model A321ceo, which stands for “Current Engine Option”.

Flydubai already has 175 737 Max aircraft in operation or on order, as well as 30 wide-body Boeing 787 aircraft. The airline announced that it will make its largest order of the aircraft to date at the trade show in Dubai, which runs from November 17 to 21. Airbus, Boeing and Flydubai have not commented on this.

Flydubai was founded in 2008 by the Dubai government. The low-cost airline serves a network of more than 130 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe and says it is focused on connecting regions that previously had no direct flights to Dubai.
