Child drinks suspicious liquid in restaurant
After the incident at a fast food restaurant in Kassel, the fluid from the water bottle was checked. Police are investigating personal injury resulting from negligence.
After a young child received medical treatment after visiting a fast food restaurant in Kassel, police investigated the contents of a suspected water bottle. The bottle was confiscated at a McDonald’s restaurant and there were no conclusions about its contents, a police spokesman said. It is being investigated for negligent bodily harm.
The two-year-old is said to have drunk the water bottle on Thursday after his mother ordered a “Happy Meal” at the shop. According to the mother, instead of water, there was “a liquid with a strong alcoholic odor, possibly a disinfectant,” reported “Hessische/Niedersächsische Allgemeine” (HNA).
Mother: Her child is “flaming red”
After her son drank it, his face turned bright red and he screamed, the 34-year-old mother told HNA. According to police, the child was treated at the scene by ambulance after the incident on Thursday and later allowed to go home.
A spokesperson for McDonald’s Germany said: “Both we and our franchisees, who run restaurants independently as McDonald’s partners, were touched by the event.” A full investigation is an absolute priority and everything is being done to fully understand the incident. Franchisees also have close contact with their families and everyone involved. No further statements can be made at this time regarding the actual situation. In general, the security of the company’s products is the focus of its daily work, the spokesperson said.
According to the mother, she ordered it at the McDrive counter and chose water as a drink, HNA reported. When he opened the bottle in the parking lot shortly afterward, he didn’t notice anything. The screw cap is difficult to open as usual.
