Emmanuel Macron held a closed-door meeting at the Élysée regarding drug trafficking on Tuesday, November 18, with several ministers, including Laurent Nuñez, Minister of the Interior and Marseille prosecutor, franceinfo learned from consistent sources, while a teenager was seriously injured by a bullet on the night of Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, at a drug trafficking point in Grenoble. In another case, the Marseille prosecutor’s office on Monday confirmed that warning crimes are crimes “favorite tracks”, following the death of the younger brother of environmental activist Amine Kessaci, who was committed to opposing drug trafficking, last Thursday in Marseille.
Will be present at this meeting at the Elysée: Laurent Nuñez, Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, Minister of Justice, Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of Public Accounts, and Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Along with them, also invited: the candidates for the head of the national anti-organized crime prosecutor’s office, the prosecutor of Marseille, the director general of the national police, the national director of the judicial police, the prefect of the Bouches-du-Rhône police and the director general of Customs and indirect rights.
Last May, a year after the escape of Mohamed Amra, a repeated drug trafficker, from the Incarville toll post in Eure, the President of the Republic appointed an inter-ministerial staff to combat organized crime. Equipped with 12 different police, gendarmerie, intelligence and justice agencies, gathered in Nanterre, near Paris, this headquarters aims to better coordinate investigative work against these drug trafficking networks.
Emmanuel Macron recently launched a joint initiative to align the system with neighboring countries, such as Italy. In March 2024, the Head of State also participated in a “clean operation” in Marseille to dismantle drug smuggling points.
