Johannesburg, November 23 (askanews) – “Ukraine has been at the center of discussions in recent days. Any credible and sustainable peace plan must first end the killing and war, without sowing the seeds of future conflict.” This was stated by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a video message posted on social media.
“We have agreed on the main elements necessary for a just and lasting peace and for the sovereignty of Ukraine – continues Von der Leyen –. And I would like to highlight three of them. First, borders cannot be changed by force. Second, as a sovereign state, there should be no restrictions on Ukraine’s armed forces that would make the country vulnerable to future attacks, thereby also endangering European security. Third, the centrality of the European Union and guarantees of peace for Ukraine must be fully respected.”
“Ukraine must have the freedom and sovereign right to choose its own destiny. Ukraine has chosen the destiny of Europe. It all started with the reconstruction of the country, integration into the single market and our defense industrial base, and finally joining the European Union”, underlined Ursula von der Leyen.
