EU Attorney General clears way for Puigdemont amnesty, but raises objections to some provisions of amnesty law | Spain

The lawyer of the Court of Justice of the European Union argues that the amnesty can be applied to the accounting liability of the former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, and other senior officials of his government in relation to the expenses of the processesaccording to the report published today.

The Attorney General, however, concludes that some provisions of the amnesty law, such as the fact that a maximum period of two months is granted to verify whether the expenses harm the interests of the European Union, or that only the Prosecutor’s Office or public administrations can appeal against the dismissal of proceedings, but not popular accusations, would violate community legislation.

In the other proceeding, relating to the 12 independence supporters of the Committee for the Defense of the Republic accused of terrorism, the Attorney General concludes that the amnesty against them does not violate European legislation.
