European Handball League: Flensburg-Handewitt advanced to the main draw undefeated

With his fourth win in the fourth match of the Europa League group stage, the handball player from SG Flensburg-Handewitt secured a place in the next round. After a 46:28 (22:15) home win over Romanian club Potaissa Turda, North Germany has 8:0 points and is one of the two best teams in Group A.

In the main round, the Flensburg team, which has the best pitcher, ten times scorer Patrick Volz, will face their big rival THW Kiel. The record champions have secured progress in parallel group B with a 37:27 win against Swiss representatives BSV Bern.

Three young talents in the Flensburg squad

In front of 2,718 spectators at home, the Flensburg team made things clear from the start. From 10:5 (13th minute) to 19:10 (24th). After the break, the hosts’ concentration initially waned somewhat. The decision was taken early at 31:21 (44).

SG coach Ales Pajovic appeared without defensive specialist Blaz Blagotinsek for load control reasons. Young talents Thilo Knutzen (20 years), Moritz Detlefsen (17) and Catalin Haidu (18) are in the squad. Goalkeeper Haidu recently celebrated his debut in the Romanian national team. The three were on the pitch together in the final phase.
