There are extraordinary expulsions in the Premier League. The cause was a slap in the face to a teammate.

Everton professional Idrissa Gueye was sent off in the Premier League match against Manchester United after attacking his own teammate. The defensive midfielder slapped teammate Michael Keane. But how did that scene happen?

In the 13th minute of the match, Manchester United approached Everton’s goal. However, Gueye intercepted the ball in his own penalty area and wanted to pass it to Keane so he could take it out of the box. However, Keane did not realize his teammate’s intentions in time. The playing equipment ended up at the feet of United’s Bruno Fernandes. His shot missed Everton’s goal, but Gueye was still unconscious and immediately charged towards Keane, gesticulating wildly.

The Irish centre-back probably saw Gueye’s mistake, and a war of words ensued. Keane pushed his teammate away several times until finally he hit him in the face with his hand. Referee Tony Harrington had observed the incident and did not hesitate for long: he sent Gueye off the field with a straight red card.

Therefore, he acted strictly according to the rules. This views attacks on one’s own teammates as highly unsportsmanlike behavior like attacks on players on the other team, which are usually punished by a red card.

However, Gueye could barely keep calm even after he was sent off. He had to be restrained and escorted off the field by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and then also by striker Iliman Ndiaye so as not to attack Keane again. How many matches Gueye will be banned from and what additional penalties the club will face for his behavior remains to be seen.
