“I can’t wait for this race to end, and I can’t wait for the next race to start. But not the race, next season.” Lewis Hamilton continued to drive, but he also continued to talk: after talking about the ‘nightmare’ of retiring in Brazil and being reprimanded by John Elkann, the British Ferrari driver did not hide all his disappointment even after the Las Vegas GP, ending in tenth position (which later became eighth due to McLaren’s disqualification). “It’s a bad result. There’s nothing positive to take from today,” Hamilton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Let’s calm down. Jumping out of the car and making the first comment is always too much. Let’s discuss it after the Q&A.” Therefore, Franc Vasseur, Ferrari team principal, tried to block another outburst from Lewis Hamilton, this time after Las Vegas. “I can understand Lewis’s reaction immediately after the race, but we just need to calm down to discuss and concentrate on the next two races, because in the next two races we will be back,” Vasseur said in response to those who asked him about the Briton’s words (“I can’t wait for this season to end and the next season to begin”). Remember also that Lewis was there in FP1, in FP2 his pace was good, and this means we have to build the weekend in this way. Of course – he later admitted – starting from 20th position is not the best way to get good results.
