The suspected shooter in Menden had been in hiding for months. Now investigators abroad have made a breakthrough.
Police have arrested a man who has been on the run for three months. The 40-year-old is suspected of shooting a 45-year-old man in Menden in Sauerland. The second person was seriously injured.
Police in Hagen said the arrest took place in Serbia. The wanted Kenan M. was there with a fake identity. He will now be transferred to Germany.
The suspected shooter sparked a major operation in Sauerland in August this year: after an argument, the man is said to have opened fire on two other men in a residential area. Eyewitnesses reported a “storm of bullets”. A 45-year-old man died from his injuries, and a 49-year-old man was taken to a clinic with gunshot wounds to the chest and upper arm.
After the crime, the perpetrator reportedly left by car. He escaped despite an intensive police search. Investigators published a photo of the alleged perpetrator – with a warning: The man could be dangerous and contact should be avoided.
The motive for the crime remains unclear. A police spokesperson was speechless when asked by t-online. The newspaper “Bild” reported that the victim was a craftsman. As a result, the dispute between Kenan M. and the craftsman was said to be about money. Neighbors described M. as an “aggressive psychopath.”
