A fire in one family’s house claimed lives

In Central Franconia, a man died in a fire at his home. Criminal police are investigating how this could have happened.
A 70-year-old resident died in a fire at a single-family house in Lonnerstadt in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district of Central Franconia on Wednesday evening. According to police, the emergency call was made shortly after midnight by a resident who noticed the smell of fire coming from a neighbor’s house on Schillerstrasse.
Patrols from Höchstadt an der Aisch police station and the fire brigade arrived at the scene shortly afterwards. At the location they saw thick smoke forming on the ground floor of the house. Emergency crews managed to extinguish the fire quickly.
Firefighters found the 70-year-old resident dead. Emergency doctors could only confirm that the man was dead. No one else was injured.
The amount of loss cannot be calculated yet. The Central Franconia Criminal Investigation Agency has begun its initial investigation at the scene of the fire. Determining the cause of the fire is now the main part of the further investigation by the responsible Erlangen criminal police department.
