The executive committee of second division football team Hertha BSC has backed football fans’ concerns over planned security measures by politicians at German stadiums. “That football safe. That’s because we live it together responsibly. “This is underlined by official statistics such as those from the Sports Operations Information Center (ZIS),” said a statement from the club. Managing director Peter Görlich has previously indicated his understanding of the protests.

“Our fans are at the heart of our identity – and they deserve appreciation, fair conditions and a voice,” the executive board said. “Security emerges through dialogue, not through decisions made by the parties involved alone.”

Interior ministers will meet next week

The topic of stadium security will be discussed from 3 to 5 December at the autumn meeting of the Conference of Interior Ministers in Bremen. Among other things, personalized tickets for football matches and tightening stadium ban guidelines are being discussed.

Organized fans in Germany reject this. Last weekend they stopped singing and cheering for the first twelve minutes of the game in protest. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf also recently stressed that stadium visits are safe: “It’s not just a subjective feeling. It’s what the facts and figures show us.”
